Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants the January transfer window scrapped and says the summer window should close 48 hours before the start of the new season.
“The players who do not play or the players who are tapped up in October they already start again to think where do I go in January. That’s not a way to be on board with a football club. I believe we have to realise that,” he told beIN Sports.
“The ideal situation would be to have a transfer period that is closed 48 hours before the first game of the championship and to close it completely until after the season.”
Premier League clubs meet on Thursday to discuss closing the summer window before the start of the season, with advocates of the move believing the circus destabilises clubs in August.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started the disastrous 4-0 defeat at Anfield, only a few days before completing a ?40 million transfer to Liverpool.
Arsenal then performed an about turn in the final days of the window, agreeing to sell Sanchez to Manchester City only for the deal to fall through when they failed to secure a replacement in Thomas Lemar.
